TISSUES

Tissues

A tissue is a group of specialised cells that have the same structure and carry out a particular function.

Cell specialisation occurs after cell division where the newly produced cells are structurally altered to allow them to carry out their specific functions.

Types of specialised cells include:

  • Red blood cells

  • Neurons (nerve cells)

  • Muscle cells

There are four types of tissues:

  • Epithelial

  • Connective

  • Muscular

  • Nervous
